Why Belong to the Rotary Club of Union?
Belonging to a Rotary club provides members with an opportunity to make a contribution to their own communities and to communities around the world. Members may join Rotary for many reasons, including community involvement, personal development, professional networking, and camaraderie with fellow members. But perhaps the most important benefit is the satisfaction gained from making a real difference in the world. Rotary is a group of ordinary people around the world working together to clean the environment, end polio, improve our local and
international communities, and accomplish extraordinary things.
To learn more about Rotary fellowship and community involvement, please be our guest at one of our weekly meetings!

When Do We Meet?
The Rotary Club of Union meets every Tuesday at Covenant Baptist Church at 100 Medical Sciences Drive. Lunch is served at 12:00 p.m. so that members have time for fellowship and networking prior to the business meeting that begins at 12:30pm sharp. During each meeting, we share good news, celebrate personal milestones and conduct the business of the club. Each meeting also includes an informative program on a topic of general interest.
We Give Back to the Community
Our club hosts a Dinner Theater at Union County High School in April and a Low Country Boil in November. The Rotary Club of Union gives back to the community by contributing funds for scholarships, the Union Carnegie Library, Dixie Youth Baseball, Meals on Wheels, YMCA and many more groups. The Rotary Club of Union donated $10,000 in order to help purchase a piece of playground equipment for the All-Inclusive Playground. Union Rotarians will assist the Miracle League with the installation of playground equipment in the near future. This playground will be located at the Timken Park in Union, SC near Rotary Field where teams have been playing ball for several years now. If you walk around Union’s Main Street and also around Foster Park, you will notice the benches we have donated to Union's community!
What Does 'Service Above Self' Mean?
In 1910, there were 16 clubs in the United States, and the first convention was held in Chicago where the clubs organized themselves to form the National Association of Rotary Clubs. At that convention, a member of the Chicago club proposed a motto for the new organization, recognizing its commitment to the idea of service: "He Profits Most Who Serves His Fellows Best." The following year, another early leader spoke of the importance of serving others and promoted the idea that a club should be organized on the principle of "Service, Not Self." The two sayings, modified to "He Profits Most Who Serves Best" and "Service Above Self," were quickly embraced by all Rotarians and were officially designated as Rotary mottoes at the 1950 convention in Detroit, Michigan.
